Doc MacNab's Drum Set-Ups: Options and Info
(for gear nuts, producers and the insurance guy)

This photo album showcases the different drum set configurations that Doc MacNab can lend to tours and sessions. Also included are Doc's different snare drums as well as photos of cases showing Doc's total footprint on trucks as well as on stage. The tape measure in the cases photos is 6' 4" long to give tour managers a sense of Doc's footprint inside a truck or trailer.


Drum Kit: Reference Series by Pearl Drum Corp.
Reference Series drums are Doc's primary recording and live kit. This kit is available in nearly any configuration of the below-listed sizes, using just a few or all, depending on the sound and stage look desired. Reference combines wood types to create an individually-engineered sound for each drum, rather than the whole kit.
Available Sizes (diameter by depth):

  • Double-Headed Rack Toms: 6x6, 8x7, 10x9, 12x10, 13x10 15x13, 18x16
  • Bass: 22x18
  • Finish: Twilight (black) Fade

Drum Kit: Vintage Artstar II by Tama

Tama's old Artstar II drums were made in the late 1980s. Made of aged Canadian hard rock maple, this kit was what set the standard for modern drums. They are wrapped in a silver Delmar glass glitter, giving them a very high-visibility presence on stage. The large, 24" diameter bass drum has an internally-mounted AKG D-112 microphone, so there can be a large logo head installed with no hole to interrupt the image. This kit is available in nearly any configuration of the below-listed sizes, using just a few or all, depending on the sound and stage look desired.

  • Finish: Silver Glass Glitter exterior; painted interiors
